For me the hardest part of CrossFit was getting started. Before I started going to Vernal Fitness & Nutrition I was overweight and unhealthy. I really can't say enough about the positive and inclusive environment I was lucky enough to find at Vernal Fitness & Nutrition. Once I got started, and got my diet under control (which Holly helped me figure out as well) the results started to show. I noticed I felt energized, I could lift more and had improved flexibility. My cardio improved so much I started working in additional workouts like running and swimming each week. So far I have lost 40lbs and as great as that is the best part for me is my new found positive mental attitude towards health and fitness. I would say for the first time in my life I have a truly body positive attitude, and it's not because I've achieved my ultimate weight loss goals, it's because I know I'm working hard on myself every day and then accepting myself as I am. CrossFit for me started as a last ditch effort at losing weight and instead became a way to build myself up and improve every day. I'm amazed at the things I have already been able to achieve and am excited for the journey to continue.
My journey with CrossFit and living a healthier lifestyle began approximately nine years ago. I loved it! I was in the best shape of my life and had so much confidence! Then about six years ago I ran into some health challenges and as a result was unable to attend Vernal Fitness regularly which led to weight gain and low self-esteem. I spent many years seeing doctors and working on healing my body. Then a year and a half ago I weighed myself and was disheartened to see that I weighed more than I ever had in my entire life! From that day I shifted my mindset and made a very critical choice to take care of my health and be more consistent with eating well, being more active, and attending Vernal Fitness. It has not been easy and I have had some setbacks, but in the last year and a half I have been able to lose 45 lbs with the help of awesome coaches and a great community of fellow cross fitters. I still have a little ways to go and couldn't do it without my Vernal Fitness family.
I've never really felt comfortable working out in a group setting. My first group class was a partner workout. I ended up pushing harder than I had been (working out alone for years) and felt like the coaches were really invested in my form. I'll never go back to solo workouts.
